Malayalees in Deutschland

An analysis of the magazine Wartha

During my studies at the SOAS in London I analysed in an essay 1998 the magazine Wartha. From this analysis I wanted to get information abouth the 'Malayalis' living in Germany. Focussing solely on one magazine this analysis was bound to be biased and lacking many insights. Since then I have done further field research and theoretical analysis. I would not write the essay in the same form again. I would use a more elaborate theoretical framework, be much more careful about the choice of terms and would add further empirical material. Nonetheless, after rereading the essay 8 years later, I believe the analysis gives some emprical interpretation which is interesting. Thus, with this disclaimer I finally publish the essay on this website.
